Trip Itinerary
-
Title: Drive in, acclimatize & prepare for the trek
-
Description: Arrive early morning at Haridwar / Rishikesh (or Dehradun/Delhi pickup as per package). After a refreshing stop and briefing, drive through lush valleys and scenic mountain roads toward Guptkashi / Sonprayag (6–8 hours depending on start point). En route you’ll pass through Devprayag (confluence of Alaknanda & Bhagirathi), Srinagar (Uttarakhand) and the Mandakini valley — brief photo/stretches allowed. Check into your mid-range hotel, meet the local guide, complete permits/registrations and get a detailed safety briefing about trekking distances, altitude and weather. Enjoy a simple evening aarti/temple visit in the town if time permits. Early lights-out recommended for Day 2 trek. (Meals: Dinner included)
-
Title: The trek and darshan — Gaurikund to Kedarnath
-
Description: Start early after hot breakfast. Drive/transfer to Gaurikund (trek head). From Gaurikund you can:
-
Trek on foot (~16 km one-way; moderate to strenuous depending on fitness) with regular halts, or
-
Hire a pony/palanquin (subject to availability) or
-
Opt helicopter (if booked separately — highly weather dependent and expensive).
The trail follows the Mandakini river, with switchbacks, stone steps and mountain views. Reach Kedarnath in the afternoon, check into allocated guest accommodation/cottages, freshen up and proceed for evening darshan at the ancient Kedarnath Temple (timings vary by season). The guide will explain temple rituals, history and safe conduct near the sanctum. Rest overnight in simple mountain accommodation — the night is cold; carry warm layers. (Meals: Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner)
-
Acclimatization & safety note: Kedarnath is at high altitude (~3,584 m). Shortness of breath, headache or nausea can occur. Move slowly, hydrate, and inform the guide if symptoms appear.
-
Title: Return trek and drop to base city
-
Description: Early morning you may attend optional morning aarti/darshan (if not done previous day). After breakfast, begin the descent to Gaurikund. The downhill walk is quicker but can be hard on knees — use trekking pole if available. From Gaurikund, drive back via Sonprayag/Srinagar to Haridwar/Rishikesh or the agreed drop point. Reach by evening; trip concludes after drop. Tour ends with happy memories and recommendations for rest and follow-up medical advice if needed for any altitude issues. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch)
