Scuba Diving

Scuba Diving in Andaman – Dive into a Magical Underwater World.

Whenever the name of Andaman comes up, the first activity that comes to mind is scuba diving. The water here is so clear and blue that as soon as you look inside, you start seeing colorful fishes, beautiful coral reefs and the infinite world of the sea. Andaman is counted among the best scuba diving spots not only in India but also in Asia. If you have always been fond of seeing the life under the sea closely, then this experience should not be missed at all.

What is scuba diving?

Scuba diving is actually an adventure in which you dive into the depths of the ocean and see its unique world with your own eyes. For this, you just need to wear some basic gear – mask, fins and oxygen tank, so that you can breathe easily under water and swim comfortably. As soon as you get into the water, colorful fish, corals and the peace of the water will welcome you all around. This is an experience that takes you completely away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Why is scuba diving special in Andaman?

The water here is very clear, so much so that you can see clearly up to 20-30 meters.

Colorful sea creatures are found – clownfish (i.e. Nemo's  ), angelfish, turtles and sometimes small reef sharks can also be seen.

Coral reefs are the real attraction here – like roaming in an underwater garden.

And the best part is, even if you don't know how to swim, you can easily go scuba diving with an instructor. This is why Andaman is often called the scuba diving capital of India. The underwater experience here is so unique that everyone would want to try it at least once in their lifetime.

Best places for scuba diving in Andaman

  • Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep): The most popular place, especially Elephant Beach where scuba diving is a different kind of fun.
  • Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep): A little quieter, less crowded and equally beautiful underwater world.
  • North Bay Island: Near Port Blair, so if you are short on time, you can quickly dive here.
  • Sink Island: The water here is as clear as glass and the huge coral reefs make it special.

Each place has its own identity. Somewhere you will see turtles, somewhere a crowd of colorful fishes, somewhere a coral garden. Meaning every dive is a new experience.

Duration and cost

Time: An initial dive lasts about 30-45 minutes underwater. Before this, you are given about 30 minutes of training and guidelines.

Cost: Usually ₹3,500 to ₹6,000 per person, depending on the location and season. If you want to do a professional certified dive, the charge may be slightly higher.

Do you need training?

Absolutely not! If you are scuba diving for the first time, there is nothing to worry about. Before the dive, an expert instructor will give you a short training session—how to use the equipment, how to breathe underwater and what are the basic hand signals. The instructor is also with you during the actual dive, so you are completely safe.

Safety and some tips

You are always provided with a life jacket, wetsuit and professional diving gear.

Diving is done only by certified PADI instructors. If you have asthma, heart problems or any serious health issue, it is better to avoid scuba diving. Do not eat a heavy meal before the dive, keep it light. Most importantly—stay relaxed, breathe slowly and enjoy that underwater world.

Why you shouldn’t miss it

Scuba diving in Andaman is not just about going underwater, it is a truly heart-warming experience. As you dive, the noise of the outside world fades away and a calm, colourful world opens up before you. Fishes fly past you, coral gardens look like paintings, and at that moment you just feel like – I wish I could see this view forever.

In short: Whether you love adventure or just want to feel something new, scuba diving in Andaman is a moment of life that you will never forget. It will become the sweetest memory of your trip.
